Tooth extraction is possibly the most commonly misunderstood aspects of dentistry, earning dentists everything from politely disguised shudders to loud curses. The truth is, we do whatever we can to save your teeth, but there are times when an extraction is the only solution.
Procedure and Aftercare for Dental Extraction
After an examination (which may include a dental x-ray), we will first prescribe a course of antibiotics and call you back for extraction in case of an infection. Dental extraction is performed under a local anesthetic, to minimize any discomfort you may feel during the procedure. Stitches are sometimes required for faster recovery.
You should eat cold, soft foods and avoid drinking alcohol or tobacco use, to speed up the healing. If there are additional dental treatments that need to be performed, we will schedule them as per your convenience.
At XL Smiles Dental Clinic, we make your extraction as comfortable and painless as possible. If you have a severely damaged tooth, don’t wait for it to get worse. Visit us today!
Reasons to undergo extraction of tooth/teeth
- If the tooth is too badly damaged or decayed to successfully undergo restorative dental procedures such as crowns, fillings, etc.
- When you have excessive crowding or protrusion of teeth (space needs to be created before orthdontic treatment begins)
- When a tooth has not erupted from the gums(impacted tooth), but is stuck under or behind another tooth or bone
- If the baby teeth aren’t falling out or are not growing correctly; causing infection or affecting other teeth
